It’s about people and their stories. The stories that shape who we are, tell where we’ve been and show where we’re going. At Samba we believe that our members are our heritage and this is the main reason for continuing to add value to their lives by obtaining the best possible benefits for them.
Our legacy started in 1938 with 32 members and 14 dealers. Soon after commencement the founders identified the need for financial assistance and loans to members were introduced.
Over the years various additional services were introduced liked motor financing, budget facilities, instalment sales agreements, funeral cover, payment of short-term insurance premiums through Samba and many more.
Since 1938 we have adhered to the same set of values resulting in Samba growing as a Co-operative that allocated R37.76 million back to their members in the previous financial year.
Samba is headquartered in Bloemfontein with branches in Port Elizabeth and Kimberley. There are more than 25 800 stores where 25 500 cardholders can use their Samba card to do their purchases. Although we only have branches in the Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape our members reside nationwide. Being registered as a Co-operative means that there are no major shareholders that need to be catered for. Samba members are joint owners of the Co-operative and share in the annual net profit, as a percentage of a bonus on their individual purchases made during the year.
